Pastor Sue - St John's Lutheran Church
Zephaniah 1:7, 12-18, Psalm 90, I Thess 5:1-11, Matthew 25:14-30
The world in which we live is being controlled by Satan and broken- we know that. Read Matthew 10, G-d will not make peace with a broken world. As for being broken just parouse a book store for self-help books and you can find all kinds of them but to do so is folly.
Then she gave an illustration: taking a glass of clean water she compared the water to our lives (upon baptism and confirming our belief - I'd argue with her there but she makes some good points otherwise. At the point of salvation) our lives are clean and we are ready to go but we skip prayer, sluff through worship, put other things besides Yeshua first etc and something happpens(dumping a little water out each time): watch. She now began to refill the glass: self-righteousness/vineagar "that stinks", rage/tobasco sauce, dissipation (not just wine but anything ESPN, soap operas, etc)/beer, selfishness/mustard, some green stuff/envy (as opposed to jealousy), lemon juice/bitterness, soy sauce/websites, movies and other things we have no business participating in as followers of Christ and then she mixed it up and offered us a drink. She went on to show repentance and how when we repent and walk with G-d he cleans up our lives and at the end drank some as it was again drinkable.
Her point from Yeshua's parable in Matt 25: He's not talking to the religious leaders-- he's talking to his followers. Everyone has ability - the one with two was equal in G-d's eyes to the one with five talents. It was the wicked one who hid the talent who saw the master as harsh. Everyone one has ABILITY, everyone has RESPONSE-ABILITY and everyone is ACCOUNTABLE.
People who don't have an intimate relationship with Yeshua tend to bring outer darkness to themselves. The L-rd WILL judge. He has had enough! There is no middle ground. Remember who is the ONLY one we can go to for true change of our hearts and minds.
