Syndicated columnist Kathleen Parker recently wrote a column entitled, “Who and whose religion is God more likely to hear?” In this column Kathleen deprecates Franklin Graham praying in the Pentagon parking lot, after being un-invited to the National Day of Prayer services being held inside the Pentagon. According to Kathleen, Franklin “mocked other religions, specifically Muslims and Hindus.”
Then Kathleen went on to explain her viewpoint of Christianity, and what she believes prayer to God is all about. Keep in mind now that 90% of syndicated columnists, reporters, and editors are very liberal in their viewpoints and worldviews, and hardly ever darken the doors of a Christian church, especially a conservative evangelical church. As a background to her views on prayer, she quotes Notre Dame professor David Campbell who conducted a survey “showing 2/3 of evangelicals under 35 believe non-Christians can go to heaven, verses 39% of those over 65.”
Kathleen finally gets to the heart of her views on prayer by saying, “When it comes to whose prayers carry more weight in the heavenly realm, well, who really knows? But new brain research supports the likelihood that one man’s prayer is as good as any other’s.”
So we are to look to “brain research” to discover whose prayer is really good? If one is a true Christian, I think not! 1 John 5:13-15 declares this:
13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
14 This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.
The true measure of whose prayer is really good is not found by brain research, but whose prayer the “I AM GOD” in heaven answers.
Kathleen goes on to quote author Barbara Hagerty, NPR religion reporter, who wrote “Fingerprints of God.” Yes, NPR is another great place to learn who God is and what He does! Again Hagerty’s focus is on “brain research,” rather than on answered prayer research. When it doesn’t matter whether or not the “I AM GOD” in heaven really answers prayer, then I guess it doesn’t matter which religion you choose to be a part of. When it comes to religion, one religion is as good as another. But if one is looking for a relationship with the “I AM GOD” in heaven, then one must discard all the religions of the world for a relationship with the living Lord Jesus Christ who was, who is, and who is to come.
Kathleen finishes her column by saying this, “Hagerty is optimistic that science eventually will demonstrate that we are more than mere matter. In the meantime, it would seem imminently rational to presume in our public affairs that God does not play political favorites with his creation.”
If God does not play political favorites with his creation, then let’s ignore the nation of Israel from it’s founding in Abraham to the coming of Messiah Jesus to the last 2000 years of Pentecost’s where the I AM God of heaven has poured out His Spirit on all flesh who call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, answering the prayers of those who ask according to God’s will. Let’s also ignore the founding of America where Pilgrims & Puritans came to this country to found a nation who believed in Psa 33:12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.”
But if one is looking to something other than the “I AM GOD of the Bible” who really answers prayers, any religion will do, and so will any syndicated columnist.
